influences
i love hearing about what inspired people's work! i'm always reading stuff going "did they know about this other thing?". so here are my sources:
- homestuck by andrew hussie changed the "webcomics about teenage friendships" game forever. paranatural by zack morrison is also a huge inspiration for me. jasper got me into sakana, and the thick black linework was also a big influence!
- everything about it draws heavily from seconds by bryan lee o'malley
- alice oseman is the queen of wholesome young adult fiction set in england; radio silence and solitaire are my favourites.
- we originally wanted this story to be an alternate reality game. it was 2019 and i'd been following asexualjunko, what on earth was the deal with that?? jasper was more into daisy brown.
- a joke someone made on bluesky gave me the idea for the main plot
- the quick and dirty art style was born of practicality but also inspired by zine culture, particularly bre's youtube videos
- isha is full of pieces of people i knew in high school
- i spent countless hours skating down the roads shown in the comic and listening to the magnus archives, so that's surely in there somewhere.
- and, of course, st albans is real.
